8 D's of Decluttering
We are almost at end of this year. To start the next year we have to be ready with more space in our house and mind. I am sharing few tips to declutter your house to welcome the new year with clean and fresh mind.
Decluttering is a therapeutic way of clearing our space and our brain at the same time. So here we go...
Tip no. 1: Decide- When you start decluttering, make up your mind in order to decide quickly what to keep and what to bin. Believe me this is the most difficult decision if you have things piling up from the past and you are attached to them. Keep one rule in mind...when you feel stuck ask yourself...What value this particular object/sentiment/people add to my life in next 1 year? You get your answer. Try decluttering/organising your fb friend list using this tips.😛
Tip no.2 -Divide: If you have small apartment, you dont need much time. Just divide your time in hours. And if you have a big house, you need to denote one day each to declutter different items.
Tip no.3 - Draw: When I declutter, I really dont go by rooms. I make a list of categories which i need to declutter. E.g. clothes, toys, books, kitchen stuff, linens, misc. Etc.
Draw a flowchart, starting with Clothes for example, make more extensions as per the number of members in the house. Now collect all the clothes which have been piling up from more than 6 months.( if you haven't used in 6 months, you are not going to use it ever.) Except winter clothes. 🥶
Tip no.4- Dump- When you have all the clothes in front of you, start dumping those you dont need anymore in a large plastic bag. Don't keep anything in your wardrobe which doesn't fit you (gives you depression everytime you see it)😵
Tip no. 5- Discard : Do not waste time in discarding clothes or any other items which are of no use to you as well as others. The moment you discard, you will feel a big burden unloaded from your delicate shoulders and you create more space in your wardrobe/room/house and even brain. Make sure you discard as per municipality rules.🤐
Tip no. 6- Donate: Never throw away things which are in usable condition. , people who are less fortunate are just around the street. Look for them and give away those items you no longer need. Believe me it gives you inner peace when you give away things you no longer use. Inner peace is all we want now a days...isn't it? And if it goes in the right hands as in somebody who really needed it....countless blessings for free. So it's a win win situation. 😇
Tip no.-7: Dismantle- There are many furniture items in your house which you are not using right now but might use in future. Dismantle it and store. It will save you lots of space. Always store same category items at one place, it's easy to find them later.🤔
Tip no. 8: Discuss- Involve your husband and children in this process and discuss with them what can we do with the new space created after decluttering. It motivates you. I use decluttering as a tool to teach life lessons to my kids. I asked them to choose the toys they would like to donate and when they are doing this I'm killing two birds with one arrow. One they learn to share their stuff with less fortunate and second they unknowingly tidy up their toys and room.🤩
Hope these real life tips help you in decluttering! Happy decluttering!
